The federal Conservatives have proposed cutting the GST by 1% next year and another 1% sometime within five years if they’re elected. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t even notice the GST anymore – and collectively I think the revenue from the GST can be put to better use than if we all receive a break of a couple hundred dollars on purchases throughout the year.
If we’ve got money to spare, wouldn’t it make more sense to provide a bigger tax cut to low-income earners? How about no tax cut and we put more money into public health care or education?
