Computer Software Updates – Windows XP

So I had to put Windows XP Service Pack 2 into my Dad’s machine today. I haven’t been back to Campbell River in quite a while and there’s only so much maintenance I can provide via Remote Assistance.

I started out by running a virus scan with Norton Anti-Virus. Then I downloaded Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware, updated its files and scanned the machine.

Next step was to download Spy-Bot Search and Destroy, updated its files, and scan the machine.

For some reason I couldn’t install SP2 through Microsoft’s Automatic Update – I did manage to find the whole SP2 file online (266mb) – so I downloaded it and installed it without any problems.

Links for the article will follow with the daily del.icio.us update.
