Canada Day in Vancouver

It’s taken me a while to digest my Canada Day long weekend – what a blast!

The long weekend started with a Nooner at the Nat baseball game and three of my good friends. We watched the Vancouver Canadians defeat the Eugene Emeralds in 11 innings.

After the ball game a bunch of our friends from Sh*tbox, our Urban Rec Beach Volleyball team, converged on the Cambie pub in Gastown. We ended up having a blast and meeting a bunch of new people…and closing the bar down. Obviously we all left our vehicles downtown that night. The next morning we carpooled downtown to get our cars and ended up having lunch at the Cambie again. Same waitress, same patio, same friends, and same good time as the night before. The only real differences were the Clamato in our beer, to get our daily vitamins, and the lack of multiple rounds of shots.

After lunch we headed out to the Treehouse in Port Coquitlam for some dinner and drinks. We met up with a few friends and had a bbq at a friend’s farm. We returned to the Treehouse later in the evening until close and then cabbed the long cab ride back to Burnaby and a good night’s sleep.

Sunday was a day of rest for the most part. Bridget and I went to my brother’s new townhouse in Langley for a bbq in the evening.

Monday morning we golfed the Northview Canal Golf Course with a couple Bridget knows through work. I’d never met them before but we ended up having a wonderful day on the golf course and a great bbq afterwards. Post bbq we visited Bridget’s folks to see pictures of their latest holiday – houseboating the canals in France. Their pictures are amazing!

All in all it was a very busy Canada Day weekend and we visited most of the Lower Mainland. It’s the first long-weekend in quite a while that’s felt like a real holiday.
