Tatoosh Forest Fire

Sun and smoke from the Tatoosh forest fire - taken near Princeton, BC.The sun, seen through the smoke of the Tatoosh forest fire. Taken near Princeton, BC on Saturday, September 2, 2006.

Driving home from our houseboating vacation last weekend, we passed through Princeton and Manning Park.

Bridget shot this picture of the sun through all the forest fire smoke. It was a perfectly clear day, not a cloud in the sky, but as soon as we left Princeton it appeared overcast. The picture didn’t come out as colorful as it was in real life, but it was the first time I’ve ever been able to “stare at the sun”. The smoke was so heavy that it almost turned day into night.

Luckily we only had to contend with the smoke for about half an hour – but the news reports are now saying that the Tatoosh forest fire isn’t abating. Let’s cross our fingers for the people in and around Manning Park. I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but let’s hope for rain.
