WordPress 2.5, a new theme, and a new computer…

Wordpress 2.5 Write Post screen shot

It’s been a busy week. I’m getting into the spring cleaning mode – it may be directly related to the Canucks’ poor showing last night… or it may be that I’m hedging my bets with the sun gods so we can have a warm summer.

I just upgraded to WordPress 2.5. What a beautiful new interface – so clean! The upgrade process was painless. The same as usual.

I also installed a new theme today (links at the bottom of page), as I was bored of the old Kubrick theme and I thought I’d shake things up. Hopefully I’ll get a few hours soon to customize the blog once again.

This post is being written on my new computer too (I bought the parts at NCIX in Langley). I put it together on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Here are the specs:

  • 2.40GHZ Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
  • 4GB RAM 8GB – Crucial Ballistix
  • GeForce 8800GT XT 512MB
  • 1 x 150GB WD Raptor 10,000 RPM HDD
  • 2 x Western Digital SE16 500GB SATA2 7200RPM HDDs
  • 20″ Apple Cinema Display
  • 19″ Sharp LCD UltraSharp 2009W 20” Widescreen LCD
  • Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Edition

I’m loving the new machine – it’s so fast!

So check out WordPress 2.5 – the new media uploading feature is really slick.

Update: Comments are now closed on this post, as I’ve been receiving the spammiest comments ever on this particular post.

  1. My brother told me he didn’t like the new theme I was experimenting with – so, Matt, it’s back with the old. Thanks.

  2. Your new machine sounds cool. Good card for gaming too. We should test it out in some online gaming…..

  3. Sounds like fun Al – what kind of games do you play? I’m not really a gamer – but I could be persuaded to try out something new…

  4. @Lisa: I think if we agree to put aside our OS differences we should be just fine… So long as you keep making those funny videos.

  5. Me likes the new theme. And what is it that you have that makes Mostly Lisa leaves comments on your site? She never leaves comments on mine 🙁 And when I leave one on hers, I stop the conversation… boohoo

Good work on the theme, Jeremy

  6. @Raul: Thanks for the new theme props. In fact, this is a different new theme than the one this post refers to. I only customized the header in the this one, as I haven’t had any time to really look at it. It’s pretty nice outta the box though.

I think Lisa commented on my blog ’cause she’s got a little deep rooted OS envy 😛

  7. @fractalbrothers: By waiting for the components to go on sale at NCIX’s weekly sale – I’m pretty happy with what I got for the price. Visit NCIX.com after 7pm on Wednesdays and they’ll usually have a link to their weekly specials. I was amazed at the difference in the extra 4GB of RAM makes on Vista 64.

  8. Hi, I know this is a bit cheeky, but I am looking for Apple Cinema drivers for Vista64, and noticed you’re using both. Which drivers do you use? I tried installing WinACD and using the included driver but I can’t get the installer to work. Please drop me an email with any help you can provide. Thanks!

  9. I am still using v2.1 and need to upgrade. I wantttttttt to, but I keep wondering if it will be as painless as everyone says. 🙂 After reading this post, I think it’s worth a shot. Thanks!

  10. I was looking for the same answer AI was asking. How didi you get your Apple Cinema to work on Vista64. Thanks a lot

  11. @AL @Apple LCD:

Windows recognized the display when I plugged it in.

I’ve got an XFX 512MB GeForce 8800 GT with two DVI ports. Using driver version

    I didn’t see a WinACD for Vista.

  12. Just ordered a new laptop, I am hoping that I will be impressed with the latest version of Vista.
