LCD & Plasma TVs

I’ve been shopping around for a big screen TV for my parents for about a year now. Last month we finally decided to buy.

Dad and I made a trip to Future Shop, after having visited London Drugs, Best Buy, and Costco, and we finally settled on a Samsung 40″ LCD TV and a Samsung home theatre system.

My folks have a very large living room with big windows that flood the room with sunlight. After looking at a lot of different big screen TVs, we settled on the 40″ LCD for a few reasons…

LCD TVs don’t reflect light off their screens – so my parents can now watch TV with the blinds open. It’s really nice to be able to watch a golf tournament on TV in the middle of summer without having to make the living room dark to make out what’s on the screen.

LCD TVs are now at a reasonable price-point for models 40″ and smaller.

The LCD TV is much narrower than a projection LCD TV, which has a better pricepoint.

LCD TVs look great – the picture is amazing.

While Plasma TVs offer more screen for the money, the reflection on Plasma TVs was the biggest reason we opted for the LCD TV.

We bought the LCD TV setup from a really nice woman at the Future Shop on Broadway in Vancouver. I forget her name but she was the only woman salesperson I saw in the electronics department – she’s a self-proclaimed “geek” – and she knew her stuff inside and out. If I can find her business card I’ll contact her and see if she’d like me to put her email address here.

I’ve got a 36″ CRT TV at home and I’m looking forward to an excuse to get an LCD sometime in the near future.

Happy Birthday Gary! Loose Moose & Yuk-Yuk’s

Gary's Shaky Face - 29th BirthdayGary Bearchell shows us the proper way to perform a shakey face.

It’s Grey Cup weekend in Vancouver and a bunch of us went out to celebrate Gary’s 29th birthday. We started at the Loose Moose, watching the Canuck’s game (WITH NO SOUND!), and then made our way over to Yuk-Yuk’s for the second show of the evening.

Gary managed to get together a great crew for last night’s outing. A crew that appreciates his kindness, support, sense of humour, and incredible shakeyface abilities (see picture).

Happy Birthday buddy!
